Steel grade C60R is a high-carbon structural steel for quenching and tempering with increased sulfur content (R). The increased carbon content provides the steel with high hardness and wear resistance, while the increased sulfur content improves its machinability, which is particularly important in the production of parts requiring precision machining. The increased S additive facilitates turning, milling and drilling processes.
Machining of the R-marked steel grade is more efficient compared to standard grades with lower sulfur content .After quenching and tempering, the surface hardness ranges from 55 to 60 HRC.
Thanks to its mechanical properties and ease of machining, C60R steel is an excellent material for producing parts requiring high hardness, strength and precision machining. It is widely used in the engineering, automotive and construction industries. It is widely used in the automotive, engineering and construction industries, where high strength and good machinability are required.
C60 steel is susceptible to heat treatment processes, allowing its properties to be adapted to specific applications. Heat treatments include:
- Hardening: heating temperature: 820-860°C, cooling in water or oil to achieve high surface hardness.
- Tempering: temperature: 150-200°C to reduce stress and improve fracture toughness.
- Normalizing: temperature: 840-880°C, cooling in air to improve structural uniformity and machinability.
- Surface hardening (optional): used for parts requiring a hard surface while maintaining a ductile core.
