Steel grade E360 is a structural machine steel that is widely used in mechanical engineering. According to the standard, parts made of this grade of steel are most often joined by welding, riveting and with bolts. It is characterized by good mechanical properties, i.e. high strength and good ductility. According to the designation, the letter E classifies the steel as machine-grade, while the value 360 specifies the minimum yield strength of 360 MPa.
Its good properties make it suitable for applications requiring high strength and ductility, making it a suitable material for the manufacture of various machine components exposed to mechanical loads.
Thanks to its low carbon content and suitable chemical composition, this steel has good weldability. It can be welded using a variety of methods, such as gas welding, metal arc welding with covered electrodes (MMA), gas shielded arc welding (MIG/MAG) and TIG welding.
E360 steel chemical composition
A very important factor determining the mechanical properties of a given steel is its chemical composition. According to melt analysis, the chemical composition of E360 steel should be in accordance with the values given in the table below.
Designation | C in % max. | Mn % max. | P % max. | S % max. | Si % max. | N% max. | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
E360 | 1.0070 | bd | bd | 0,045 | 0,045 | bd | 0,009 |

E360 steel applications
E360 steel is mainly used for machine components, but also in building and engineering structures where high strength and good weldability are required:
- machine parts: used for shafts, axles, gears and other load-bearing components;
- load-bearing structures: used in machine frames and load-bearing structures where high strength is required;
- general construction: used in building structures such as frames, columns and beams;
- vehicle components: used in the automotive industry for various vehicle parts such as frames and suspension components.
