Steel grade C45R is a structural steel with an elevated carbon content and a higher sulfur content. The increased carbon concentration adversely affects the welding process of parts made from this grade of steel, while the increased mesh concentration significantly improves its machinability. This makes the material particularly suitable for the production of parts requiring intensive machining, such as turning, milling and drilling.
C45R steel combines high strength with ease of machining, making it a popular material for use in the engineering, automotive and construction industries. The steel has good hardenability, which provides high hardness on the surface of the part, while maintaining good ductility in the core.

C45R steel application
C45R steel is widely used in the production of mechanical and structural components subjected to medium and heavy loads and requiring intensive machining. Typical applications include:
- Shafts and axles, as components operating under dynamic loads
- Gears, as components in mechanical transmission systems
- Pins and bushings, as components requiring high friction resistance and high durability
- Machine parts including bodies, pistons and structural components
- Bolts and nuts, as high-strength fasteners
- Precision mechanical components, produced in series, where ease of machining is important
